My theoretical orientation, culminating in more than 15 years of clinical experience, is founded on humanistic principles and integrated with attachment and relational approaches. These approaches are supported by empirical and neurobiological evidence. I strive to provide a warm and empathic environment, where cultural issues are considered paramount and to be treated with sensitivity. I aim to assist my clients in finding new solutions that are embedded with both hope and meaningful connections. I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and have extensive clinical experience working with Chinese, Chinese-Americans and individuals of Asian background.
When working with couples, I pay close attention to each partner's verbal and nonverbal expressions as well as the dynamic between the couple. I listen empathically to each partner without alienating the other while helping the couple to find connection and passion for each other again. Some couples have felt disconnected from each other for a long time and often felt defeated and hopeless to regain connection and intimacy. Some couples have experienced significant events, such as a betrayal, or abandonment, and find it hard to regain trust and partnership once more. With the understanding that each couple's journey is unique and it is extremely difficult for couples to enter therapy, I meet where the couple is with an open mind and ensure that the couple feels comfortable, appropriately challenged, yet not pressured, as they take on the healing and connecting journey.
